LINGUASKILL BUSINESS SPEAKING: Parts 1 to 5

linguaskill

The different parts in the Linguaskill Business speaking are comprised of an interview, reading, presentation, presentation with graphics and communication activity. Below is a more detailed description.

Part 1: Interview

After the instruction is read, the questions will be given one by one. There will be eight questions. The test taker must listen very carefully. There will no preparation time before each question. It will be mostly about the test taker’s personal details—career, travel, etc. For the first four questions, each must be answered within 10 seconds. For the next four, it will be 20 seconds for each question. Always answer after the beep.

Tips:

  • The timer is shown. Continue speaking until the time ends.
  • Give the main answer and provide an additional detail for each question.
  • Speak as much as you can.

Part 2: Reading Aloud

The test taker for this part must be able to read and pronounce the words clearly. The sounds of the words must be enunciated well. A total of eight sentences will be shown on the screen. There is no preparation time. For the first four sentences, each must be read within 10 seconds, the rest, for 20 seconds each. Do not speak too fast, or too slowly. This part may be considered as the easiest part, however, please exercise caution.

Tips:

  • Imagine yourself reading in front of many people. Read to inform.
  • The voice must be clear and well-modulated.

Part 3: Presentation

A one-minute presentation about a situation must be given. There are three points to cover. The preparation time is only 40 seconds.  The test taker must be able to give an organized and clear presentation of the three points. The timer is shown for the preparation and response.

Tips:

  • Use your time wisely. The introduction must be less than 10 seconds. Each point must have its main answer and corresponding detail, all in 16 seconds. The idea here is not to spend a lot of time in just one point. Remember, there are three points to discuss.
  • Use transition words like “first”, “second”, etc. to begin each point. These words will make the presentation more formal and will give a signal at what point you are already answering.
  • Speak until the time ends. It is not good to end before one minute. For example, if there is still 10 seconds, an additional sentence may still be given.

Part 4: Presentation with graphics

A graph must be presented and described in one minute. The preparation is also one minute. It is important to describe the details of the graph clearly and flawlessly. One must be familiar with different kinds of graph and adjectives to describe the movement. Again, the timer is shown.

Tips:

  • Give an introduction, talk about the details of the graph, describe the movement and analyze the graph in one minute.
  • Be familiar with words like “increasing”, “decreasing”, “fluctuate”, “highest”, “lowest”, etc.
  • Do not forget to analyze the graph.

Part 5: Communication Activity

In this part, a situation and its five points are shown on the screen. Only 40 seconds will be given for preparation. The five points will be the subjects of the question that will follow. Each question must be answered in 20 seconds, with its main answer and additional details.

Tips:

  • Read the situation and the five points fast.
  • Listen very carefully and imagine the situation.
  • The five points are related to each other.
  • Avoid repeating ideas or sentences. If the answer to the next question is accidentally given, construct the next answer differently.
  • Provide the main answer and supporting details.

Just like any speaking exam, in the Linguaskill Speaking test, it is necessary to speak more. Short sentences will not produce a favourable grade or score. Try to answer each question in the best way possible. The speaking test requires a lot of multitasking. Nevertheless, there is no reason to give up in the middle of the exam. Think positive and focus on each part. Goodluck!
